Sacred Space

A sacred space designed to greet

In love and mercy You entreat

With no façade and no pretense

Let down my guard and all defense

This dyad, You and I, discrete.

With dawn’s aubade and fragrance sweet

My rocking chair and coffee’s heat

Love, faith and grace, Your words dispense

A sacred space.

A building, park or quaint retreat

It matters not where our hearts meet

What my thought lacks Your warmth augments

You always leave me filled, content

And nothing less than whole, complete

A sacred space.

  1. Oh beautiful Susan, she is a beautiful poem this one… so soft and gently loving and peacefully reminding of our time so precious with our dear one. Thank you for sharing these with the world… ❤ They bring hope I am sure of it.

  2. We can meet God wherever we may be, and you say it so beautifully, but I love the picture that goes along with your words. Sometimes, it’s having a familiar and comforting place that creates an intimacy with Him.

    1. Thank you, Christine. When it’s warmer, I sit out on my little deck delighting in the hummingbirds and bumblebees along with him, but in colder weather, I snuggle in my rocking chair, knowing he’s right there beside me, guiding me through his word.

  3. I agree it can be anywhere we connect to God. But I love having a cup of coffee with Him. 🙂

  4. This is such a warm and loving reminder to be one with God wherever we are. We can just go within and be there. In fact, I use my visualization of this space where God and Christ are present, whenever I am feeling apprehensive. Somehow your peace comes through in this poem, in between the lines. Thank you for this.

    1. You’re welcome, Beth. It’s so important to remember we are with him all the time, and anytime we wish to be. (Admittedly, sometimes more difficult than others. 😉 )

    1. Thanks, Levi. I was actually still ruminating on the fact that sacred spaces are everything, not just in a building labeled, “Church.” They are wherever we find ourselves connected to God – which, really, is everywhere. 🙂
