grace

your grace

is a fearful thing

provoking anger when you give it away to those I hate

grace

your grace

is a weighty burden

when i don’t understand the depth of your love

grace

your grace

is the salty tear

of joy releasing the flood of guilt and shame

grace

your grace

is eyes open, seeing

newly accepting redemption, forgiveness; giving it away

grace

your grace

is the warming sunrise

during times when i feel the chill of loneliness

grace

your grace

is the first soft

flake of snow falling upon my face

grace

your grace

is the fresh scent

of rain after a long hot summer’s drought

grace

your grace

is a welcome smile

and a pat on a neighboring empty seat at church

grace

your grace

is an unexpected hug

or kind word from someone who shows the face of Jesus

grace

your grace

is your full embrace

of belonging, mercy and unconditional love

  3. When I think of all that our loving God offers, I just cannot understand why some refuse all these gifts He so willing gives. In a violent, hate-filled world where there is no security, God is our only refuge. Your poem reveals His grace all over again. Next to loss, I would think that loneliness brings about a terrible grief. “The pat on the neighboring empty seat at church” is a vivid image for me. Thank you for sharing your lovely ‘lexiconic’ art (my new word for poetry 🙂

    1. Thank you, Dale. “In a violent, hate-filled world where there is no security, God is our only refuge.” I’ve been having some deep discussions with a friend of mine who sees all this as God’s meanness, his revenge. She is not quite at the stage of belief in a loving God. My prayer is that her heart will open to the reality of his grace, peace and refuge. Thank you for your kind words.

    1. We all go there, my friend. It’s a journey. We beat ourselves up way too much. Sometimes we can’t see our own growth, but it happens. There are seasons when we lie dormant only to be completely renewed in another.

Rest well in His arms today. ❤

  11. Beautiful depiction of God’s grace, both the parts of it that feel so good and the parts that challenge us to change so we can embrace it on behalf of others. His grace is for us as individuals, and also for us as a people, a community, the Body of Christ.
