In Prayer

I Raise My Palms

Illness, struggle, troubles advance.

Desperate for a fighting chance

I shake my fists in grief, despair,

I raise my palms to you in prayer.

In sun or rain I used to dance

but storms, they drowned my confidence.

With you my doubts I used to share.

I raise my palms to you in prayer.

God, take my doubt, my trust enhance;

let me find your sweet evidence.

Lord, to you I lay my heart bare.

I raise my palms to you in prayer.

You grow the flowers and the plants,

You feed the birds with just a glance;

I see that you are everywhere –

I raise my palms to you in prayer.

Your whole creation still enchants.

Your love, it fills the wide expanse –

and I surrender, now aware.

I raise my palms to you in prayer.

  7. Beautiful. These words capture so much of what I have been wrestling with: holding on to the power of God’s love while staring the misery of this world full in the face. His resurrection renewal will win, but what all is left for us to endure between now and then?
